Effective 17 March 2026
We collect only what's needed to make the app work and to improve the reading experience.
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| Email address | Account creation and login |
| Apple ID (if using Sign in with Apple) | Authentication only — we receive a relay email, not your personal email |
| Reading activity | Tracking your progress, bookmarks, and reading stats |
| Term interactions | Which explained terms you view, save, or give feedback on — used to improve explanation quality |
| Reading preferences | Your chosen genres, reading goals, and display settings |
We do not collect your location, contacts, photos, browsing history, or any data unrelated to your reading experience. We do not show ads. We do not sell your data.
We use a small number of services to power the app. Each receives only the minimum data needed to do its job.
Your data is stored in Google's Firebase infrastructure, which provides encryption in transit and at rest. We use Firebase Authentication with industry-standard security practices, including secure token handling for Apple Sign-In.
Offline reading data is cached locally on your device and syncs when you reconnect.
You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from the app's Settings page. This permanently removes your account, reading history, bookmarks, saved terms, and all other data from our systems. Account deletion is processed immediately.
You can also clear your local offline cache from the app's settings without deleting your account.
ReadBetter is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
If we make meaningful changes, we'll update this page and the effective date above. For significant changes, we'll notify you in the app.
